Perfect Summer Detox

People usually think about detox in the spring, but I think that summers are perfect for it.  It's hot which naturally reduces appetite and makes you drink more water, and there is an abundance of delicious fresh fruit, veggies and berries out there.  I also think that easy and short detox is better than no detox so here we go:  1-Day Gentle Summer Detox.

For any detox, there should be absolutely no constipation, the bowels must be empty.   Otherwise,  whatever your liver dumps in the colon during the cleanse will poison you if the colon is clogged.  Logical.   That's why it's best to start the day before by drinking 2-3 cups of fresh organic apple juice during the day and then some good quality herbal laxative tea before bed.  It should create a mild diarrhea in the morning which is what we want.  In the morning, drink lots of warm water with either organic apple cider vinegar or with lemon juice.  You can also have a piece of fruit to get the liver going.

Freshly squeezed veggie juice is another key ingredient of this detox.  You can either get it at the local health food store that has a juice bar, or make it yourself.  Lazy Acres has a great one, it's called a Veggie Feast.  It should have lots of leafy greens and vegetables, like  kale, celery, carrots, beets, parsley, ginger, cucumber, green apple, etc.  Have at least 1-2 large glasses of this juice throughout the detox day.  It has a ton of benefits, including vitamins, minerals and enzymes -- all ready to clean and nourish the body.  Keep drinking the lemon or vinegar water throughout the day (lots of it!) to flush the toxins out.

That's it.  You can either fast with juice and water all day, or, if very hungry, break the fast around 3 pm and eat something very light and good quality, like steamed veggies with quinoa or brown rice.  If the detox goes right, you won't even crave any sugar or junk food and you might not even be hungry.

Why detox?  It gives digestive system a break, gets the toxins out, clears the skin, and raises the energy level.  It also helps with headaches, brain fog and junk food cravings.  And my favorite part:  it improves the mood and creates a feeling of peace and well being.  Need I say more?  :)
