If both your budget and your jeans are pretty tight right now, I got a suggestion for you. ;-) Next time you need to go grocery shopping, leave your car at home, and bike there instead. That way you will kill two birds with one stone: you will get a great exercise (free, with fresh air) and you won't be able to get more stuff than fits in your backpack. Awesome.
This idea came to me recently, after I lost my day-time job. Being an optimist that I am, I decided to use this situation as an opportunity to do the things I wanted (like studying for my degree in Bio-Med Science), which requires to be creative and come up with ways to cut the monthly expenses. I always knew that we spent too much money on groceries every month. I also knew that when I normally go to the grocery store, I tend to get way more stuff than we really need and end up throwing away lots of spoiled food after not being able to eat it in time. With a car, I don't have to carry all this stuff home with my own hands. But when my hubby and I bike to Trader Joe's or Mesa Produce, we think twice before putting every damn thing in that cart. The result -- much slimmer receipt in the end and my butt looks lovely in that pair of True Religion. :)
So map out a good safe route and enjoy the ride with benefits!
