Life-Changing Experience and the Miracle of Green Smoothies

Wow – it’s been almost 2.5 months since my last post!  Well, I’ve been busy.  :)  I immersed myself into my school, Institute for Integrative Nutrition which officially started on May 17, 2011.  As a result, my whole life is changing little by little.  I am learning so much, and the main thing I learned is that I need to take a better care of myself so I can be of better service to others when I’m ready.

Because I work full time, I don’t have much time left for studies.  But work is not the only time investment.  I learned the importance of exercise, 10-minute meditation, conscious, breathing, not overscheduling, taking time to cook and eat, and enjoying my hobbies.  As a result, my life is getting better every day.  It’s crazy how gradual life style changes can have such huge impact on people’s lives.

Another huge step forward was morning green smoothies.  It started with my first session with my health counselor (provided by the IIN).  I told her that one of my main health goals is to get rid of sugar cravings and chronic fatigue.  And she said that it can be easily done with more leafy greens and particularly daily green smoothies first thing in the morning.  She suggested I use parsley as it is very easily digested.  Well, it’s been a month since I tried it, and the results are fantastic!  My sugar cravings are almost gone; I feel more energized and more in tune with my body.  It is also much easier to make healthier food choices and eat home.

At first, I was so scared of the green taste, that I was putting tons of bananas, cherries, and other super sweet fruit.  But now, I’m more used to the flavor and sometimes only use strawberries.  Here is how I do it:
  • Parsley
  • Berries
  • Little water
  • Blender or Magic Bullet
  • Banana (optional)
  • Powdered spirulina and chlorella (optional)
Wash parsley and berries and cut the stems off.  But in the blender, fill about 1/3 with water.  Blend and enjoy!

Super easy.  If you want to make it more filling, you can add ground flax seed, avocado, hemp seeds, coconut oil, other greens, chicory root powder, soaked nuts – sky is the limit!  :)  Oh, and try organic everything.  But if you can’t, don’t let it stop you – non organic smoothie is much better than no smoothie at all!
