January 30, 2011, Sunday.
I just got back from my beach run. Surprisingly, running felt great and I didn't get tired for a long time. Something that did not happen for a while now which makes me think that this new lifestyle is working. I remembered that I used to love running for miles and miles when I first moved to Santa Barbara and joined the team of the office rats. That was my way of fighting stress and the joys of sitting all day. But one way or another, a poor diet and long stressful working hours won and now I'm not used to exercise anymore. Something I definitely want to fix this year. My latest plan is to run moderately for about a month and then start doing the weights in some gym. From what I learned recently, working out makes you feel stronger, more energized and it increases your metabolism. So I will start with running 4-5 times a week to kick my stamina, and then will incorporate 1-2 times per week of reasonable weights. I also want to consult a personal trainer, if it's not crazy expensive. And then we'll see where this journey takes me. ;-)
This story was actually very motivating this morning: http://www.livestrong.com/blog/blog/glendas-success-story/#ixzz1CYXEBsJ7
I love how this woman who lost almost 200 pounds says it: "Today I think of food as a way to survive--fuel for the body and the mind--so it’s important what kind of fuel I choose. And I think of exercise as a way to relieve stress, increase endorphins, get strong and live the long, happy life that is intended for me. It's working."
Sweet!
