Day 21 - UTI and Labels

1/25/2011 – day 21
Lots of news.  Health nut news.  :)  First of all, I discovered last night that my miracle green powder has caffeine in it!  Darn, darn.  That’s why it was making me so freakin’ hyper!  So, it does pay to read labels!  How could I miss such ingredients as green tea extract and yerba mate??  I know how – we are so used to trusting the salespeople!  She said it’s “wonderful”, and that was enough for me to buy it without questioning.  I mean, it is wonderful for someone who is not caffeine sensitive and not on a BED diet.  But not for me.

So, that’s the set back because I'm suppose to be caffeine-free.  But that’s fine, I learned my lesson.  Moving on.  Had to order a good old (and expensive) Vitality Super Green again, but at least I can trust it.

Another bad news – I woke up last night at 4 am to discover a UTI infection.  Great…  I guess I know why.  The other night I was too lazy after the lovemaking to go pee.  I just stayed in bed and fell asleep.  Not many women know and I myself learned about it only fairly recently from my gynecologist, after having the UTIs non-stop.  How are we suppose to know that we need to pee after sex to flush out the bad stuff?  Not just rinse it, as many women do.  None of my girlfriends knew about this either.  So there – you know now.

However, I am still positive.  These troubles only make my Journey more interesting.  The current UTI will be a good test for my new life style.  Am I strong and educated enough to beat this infection without antibiotics?  Because - heck, that was never possible before.

The UTI, by the way, is doing much better this morning.  So here are the tricks I did in case you wanna know:  Last night I got up (couldn’t sleep because of the burning anyway), did an Apple Cyder Vinegar douche, drank glass of warm water with that vinegar and took a strong cranberry supplement pill.  Surprisingly, it helped right away.  The burning disappeared and I was able to fall asleep.  In the morning I felt tired and sickish but the UTI symptoms almost vanished.  So let’s see if I can kill it completely with Vitamin C supplements, Cat’s Claw (this one is amazing, by the way, I really recommend buying it for all immune system problems), and raw apple cider vinegar water.

  1. Maria, thank you for sharing!IT's a good point. I mean the advise to pee after sex in order to avoid UTI infection. I didn't know about it. I had UTI couple times, it wasn't a pleasant experience, I am not sure that I got it because of sex, I think I just freezed my butt somewhere, but sex could be a reason too. I'll definately be doing it in the future.)

  2. You're welcome. I just learned that even though the symptoms disappear, we still need to do the urine test to make sure the infection is gone. Otherwise, it can spread to kidneys without you feeling anyting. Until it's too late and then the hell begins... So I guess, I'll call my doctor now...

  3. I so totally know this problem!! I never knew either about this fact until I had UTI awefully often and finally a alternative practitioner... not a "Doctor".... told me about this, it was his first question "do you go pee after sex??" I was like "huh???" and he explained the same thing to me... most women get UTI because of this simple reason.... now my question is: how could I get almost 30years old, having sex almost half the time of my age and never NEVER any doc telling me about it or why did I never read in any magazone or whatsoever about this? no friend ever told me, no sister, no mom.... seems to be a secret in the ladies world how can this be????
As much as I hate it, now I ALWAYS go pee and I go right away ... and it so sucks big time that we ladies have to do this because girls you know how much we would love to just stay and fall asleep and be happy after some really good sex right?? ;O) it just sucks but the pain of UTI is so not worth it. I agree on cranberry as a quick release. If it is really bad, before I go see a doc and get antibiotics (which are only needed after a certain level of infection, if its not gone after 3 days) I buy direct 100% cranberry juice in a special health store, taste so aweful!!!! makes you almost puke because it is so bitter/soure really hard to drink but works wonders!! if it is just a little infection yet or simply to prefent if I get the feelers UTI is saying hallo, I try cranberry capsules (3-4 at one time) and drink alot. It is important to take the stuff at night so the cranberries work is sitting in your bladder for hours (no peeing over night) so it can work best. Another tipp from this doc was to make sure that you completly empty your bladder when peeing, squeeze it all out because the slightest remain of bacterias will inflame it all again!
